Plant ID please

Post by Annie »

It's a plant, but it's a weed. I need to know what kind it is for my niece's school project LOL.
She has to collect a bunch of wildflowers for a class she is in. And I have no idea what these weeds are.
And yes they were in one of my flower beds
But she was helping me weed :)

Yep, it sure is oxalis and miserably persistent.
I try to pull it before it flowers and seeds. Then we put mulch on the bed and what manages to get through has a spindly main stem and is easy to pull or hit with Roundup. It takes a good two or 3 years to get rid of it because I think some of the seeds stay viable that long and keep sprouting.
Sorry you have it. :(

It also comes with a pink bloom and yes keep them in pots as they do tend to wonder off!

There is also a chocolate brown leafed oxalis with yellow flowers the is cultivated. It is sterile. I use it in hanging baskets and planters. Here I am pulling up the green one and buying the brown one. Go figure.

It is yellow wood sorrel(Oxalis stricta L). or creeping wood sorrel(Oxalis corniculata L.). Go to this link:

http://www.nearctica.com/flowers/otos/o ... strict.htm

Although I believe it's the first one because it doesn't seem to be creeping.
