My favorite perennial, Fernleaf Peony
I like this plant even more than I like daylilies, that's saying a lot!

Very interesting! I've never seen one -- even in a photo! Do they have a bloom period like a normal peony? about the same time and duration?

There's that peony again. I love it! I was finally able to get my hands on a small start and it is growing. I wonder if I will get any blooms yet this year?? Did I mention I love it?? :D

Party, this one is a very early bloomer, and yes it last the normal Peony bloom time.

Jo I am glad you have a start, you won't be sorry

Oh I know I won't be sorry. I have wanted one forever, but just couldn't spend what they want in the nurseries. I can't wait until it blooms!!

Hi Ed,

I saw one recently at a nursery and they wanted $45. It was a pretty good size with buds.

Thanks Paul
A lot of peoples have been asking me where they can find one, so I went on a web search
I have to say that they seem hard to come by, and that kind of surprises me.
In this get rich world, you think somebody would be mass producing them as they seem to be quite pricey.

talking about getting rich , I have about a dozen or so started, 2/3 eyed, half I was going to use for a mass Peony bed, and the other half I was going to sell to buy more daylilies, so much for getting rich

I have seen prices around the $40.00-$50.00 range, but some aqre online, so I have no idea the size. A local plant sale here will have some for $20.00. I had 2 different people trade me, but only one made it. So, how do you start them to have others? Divide? Or propogate somehow?

Jo, just dig it and split the roots apart in the fall, you should see the eyes rather easily.
The one I have is really easy to divide, and every little piece with a root and an eye comes back in the spring here.

That is a really pretty plant! Do you think it would do ok down here in Oklahoma? I love the look.

Ginger, if the ground freezes over winter, and other peonies survive where your at, then the Fernleaf will grow for you too.
If not it probably won't.

Sorry to hear that Jo, the one I have blooms even when it is a 2/3 eye division
Is yours planted to deep by any chance< that will cause it to not bloom, eyes should be about an inch under the soil level

Mine is still a small division, not a fast grower. I will check to see how I have it planted. Thanks! Jo
