Roses for the far, far north

Post by viktoria »

The first one is a pimpinellifolia, 'Juhannusmorsian' (June Bride), the second is known as the Tornio River Valley Rose (unknown parentage). The flowers are <2". These are hardy at least to zone 3. They are in bloom right now. Both sucker, so they are planted by the compost pile, and they are welcome to take it over! They are shaded on one side so they won't spread in that direction and on the third side is DH with his trusty rider mower.

Why do I grow them? Nostalgia!

hardy to 3 huh? Neat! I always swore if I bought more roses there were going to be canadian born ones. I figure if they make 6 feet as a climber up there in the tundra  they ought to last here in zone 5!

Do they smell as good as they look! Beautiful X 3 as Alexa already stated!

That Torino sure looks like a paeoni (sp) Also looks like it has some Rugosa in it, by the leaves.
