Hi all you rose people!
My computer's been broke for so long it ain't funny & it's now fixed, so I wanted to see if I could start another little war between you guys & the hostaholics. Any takers?

Hmmm, I thought this thread was going to be about green-flowered roses, like ST. PATRICK'S DAY...

I missed the last "war"... but isn't that like comparing apples to oranges?

There seems to be a severe shortage of "Rose people " here!

Well, it wasn't really a war. Just hostaholics saying hostas were better & we'd invade the rose forum & taunt them with how carefree hostas are compared to roses. Then they'd show up on the hosta forum talking about slugs & stuff. Just a little fun. I don't see any of the rose people who played, so maybe no one remembers.

When I was really into roses, I grew a lot of the hybrids from Griffith Buck, all of which were easier care than any other plants I've grown, hostas included!

Well OC's back to this forum

:D :D :D His yard is in so much shade, Roses do not do very well. But a few places where the sun sneaks through He does have some pretty ones. His whole drive way in one side is covered in Red and White alternating Hedge roses planted about 10 years ago, and trimmed back repeatedly as soon as they bloom. He does have a few miniature roses that bloom in his back yard and occasionally are very pretty. Last year he wasn't well in the spring because of a January Case of pneumonia which took him a long time to get over but this year he is on a roll with all his flowers, including his pretty Hostas. (With his yard full of shade they are a Natural)

Glad to be back - OC

I remember The Greenies & The Thornies war.
It was great fun and sooo silly.
I use to post here a looong time ago when Hallsons was first was created. What year was that anyway?
I even saved some goofy pics that Moudy Man posted...is he still here? Those pics are buried on my puter somewhere.
I should see if I can find them.
The rose forum was really hopping back then.
Seems like many have left for other places in cyberspace.
I don't have much time to post now that I'm working but still have 100 some roses.
Happy Holidays everybody! :snow:

Hi Vicky,

We've been going for 6 years now. Hard to believe really.

Yes, roses have slowed down quite a bit from where they used to be. Like you mentioned, there seem to be other sites more in tune with the rose crowd.

Stay warm and have a good winter.

Chris

Hi Chris!
6 years?! Good grief! :P
I think all forums evolve over time.
I think some people just get forum burnout.
Like how many times can you talk about New Dawn anyway?
Even a lot of the die hard rose geeks who use to post on the GW rose forum have drifted off to who knows where.
I rarely go there anymore myself.
Since it was sold to ivillage its become so commercialized and with so many ads its oh so slow downloading for folks with dial up.
I mainly hang out on Daves Garden.
What a nice place.
Reminds me of Hallsons.
I'm trying to stay warm.
Sinking down into the teens this week for PM temps.
Oh yeah. :frosty:

Hey Lucy!
Nope not tired of Daves...its a VERY nice forum just like Hallsons. Great group over there. i think I'm just burned out on forums in general and don't have the time to post much now that I'm working.

Sounds like the Greenies have brained washed you!
I think I love just about anything that grows in the ground.
I just ordered a bunch of Oriental and OT Lilies from a co-op on Daves. Chris send me Stargazer as a gift a long time ago when I placed an order with them and boy oh boy are they awesome! I got Casa Blanca a couple years ago but I need MORE! They perfume the air something incredible and so long lasting.
Don't know why it took me so long to get more.

Heres Casa Blanca...

Heres the Stargazer I got from Chris.
I think this pic is from 2006 and the clump was even more impressive this past summer.

Hello Thy! :)
I guess I missed your post.
Thank you for the welcome back.
I couldn't resist the Greenies thread.
Those were the days my friend.
Seems like all the old rose forum regulars have moved on
to other places in cyberspace and some offline altogether.

I do loves hostas but I don't have much shade and my shade is dry and riddled with pine and oak tree roots so they don't do very well.

We are still quite frozen here and I suspect we will be for another month or so.
Best wishes for the 2008 growing season!
