Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

Post by Pam R »

A ruby-throated hummingbird was sighted in NJ today... http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html

I hope I get visitors this spring, but there are no flowers in bloom yet. Will have to put out the feeders tomorrow. I have never seen one here on L.I. in the spring, only in August and Sept. Hoping this year will be different.

You should be able to attract them in spring - I can up here (although it's usually May) - good luck!

I just read that if there are no flowers, the hummers use the running sap from trees where woodpeckers have recently made holes as their food source. "The Journey North" has a lot of interesting facts about hummers.
