Globe thistle is great for attracting bees! Great picture :wink:

O.C. has never seen on of these before. Do you grow it from seed ? Is is an annual or perennial ?? Oh, and a good BEEEE too.

It's perennial, and easily grown from seed. They like full sun. The full name is Echinops ritro, or Globe Thistle. I love mine.

I found one of these growing wild and moved it into my Japanese Garden in the woodland
I think they are a most beautiful plant :)

Well, I just dug my plant out.... :???: It was ugly. :???: never did well, and I had it for a few years...Maybe it was the spot, I don't know.....What does your folage look like? Mine was always dried up and half dead looking....the globes got smaller and smaller.....

Lucy - My globe thistle has been prone to spider mites, which makes the leaves curl up and get dry and the plant always looks nappy. I didn't realize it was spider mites and thought it was the plant until i took a good close look. Some soapy water every few weeks kept them down and the plant healthy and pretty again. just something to keep in mind if you try it again. :)
