It's perennial, and easily grown from seed. They like full sun. The full name is Echinops ritro, or Globe Thistle. I love mine.

Well, I just dug my plant out....
It was ugly.

Lucy - My globe thistle has been prone to spider mites, which makes the leaves curl up and get dry and the plant always looks nappy. I didn't realize it was spider mites and thought it was the plant until i took a good close look. Some soapy water every few weeks kept them down and the plant healthy and pretty again. just something to keep in mind if you try it again.
Great pic Doris!
