Tonight I set the sprinkler by my beds that are close to the driveway.
Almost as soon as the water started splashing on the driveway, the birds started flocking in for their shower. It is a shame it was so far away, that it wouldn't have shown up on the camera other than specks. I was using binoculars to watch them.
But there were 2 bluebirds, and 8 sparrows/and finches, then 2 goldfinch showed up. Just a rotating array of cool/wet birds.
Everytime the oscillating sprinkler came back to the birds they would just squat and let the water flood over them and when it went the other way, they preened and flapped their wings. They were all having a good time.

Great description Char and what a wonderful idea!

Nice description, Char. I've been noticing that all summer as I water my gardens. The birds just follow the sprinkler around. They ignore my birdbaths in favor of the fresh 'rain'.
