2005 whooping cranes on southern migration
the class of 2005 (20 young birds) raised in wisconsin, is on its way to florida. they are being led by ultra-lights. today they crossed the illinois-indiana state line and are in benton county, indiana. to follow their progress go to

the cranes flew 49.1 miles today and are now in boone county, indiana. 337.9 total miles so far.

Whooping Crane Migration
What an enjoyable site, have passed it on to the "birders" in my garden club.
cranes fly to morgan county, indiana
thanks everyone. this site is also interesting in the spring when the cranes fly their northern migration. today they flew 55.2 miles and are now around indianapolis and in morgan county, indiana. total miles flown--393.1.

Kentucky--finally!!
the cranes finally had good flying weather and are now in shelby county, kentucky. they had a lot of down-time in indiana due to poor weather conditions and also lost 1 crane.

Cranes Squeak into Tennessee
because they had a good tailwind today, the cranes were able to skip over the next scheduled stop in kentucky and are now in cumberland county tennessee. they arrived in poor weather, but all cranes and personel landed safely. they flew 116.3 miles today. total miles flown are 644.4. they are almost one-half way to florida.

Cranes Half-Way to Florida
the cranes flew 47.7 miles today and are now at Hiwassee Refuge in Miegs Co., Tn. today was perhaps the most difficult day of the trip as they had to climb to over 2,500 feet to clear the Cumberland Ridge, part of the appalachian mountains. next stop georgia!

cranes move into georgia
hooray!! the cranes have advanced and are now in georgia! there were many difficulties yesterday, but they were able to move on and are now in gordon county.

today the cranes had good tailwinds and flew 101 miles---skipping 1 stop. they are now in pike county, georgia. total accumulated miles 860.4 miles.

the cranes skipped a stop today and flew 97 miles--total accumulated miles 957.4. they are now in terrell county, georgia. florida is in sight.

cranes divided,7 advance to cook co. ga.-12 back to terrell
the pilots had a rough day today. the cranes did not want to battle the winds. they all were in flight--and 7 advanced to the next stop in cook co. ga.----but 12 turned around and went back to the starting point in terrell co. ga. with the next flight, they plan to bring the 12 stragglers to cook co. georgia so there again will be one group. there's a lot more verbage on today's flight at
