LBB (little brown bird) with white primaries

Post by lazygardner »

Snow, or anyone else, do you have any idea what kind of bird looks like an english sparrow, but has white primary wing feathers and maybe white tail coverts? Is it some kind of juvenile? Or maybe it is a mutant?
Before criticizing someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them you will be a mile away and have their shoes!

That makes sense KellieD. I do have juncos that hang around, so maybe it is a juvenile junco.

Oed- you are such a silly, goofy..... puppy. :o

Hmmm....I think it's too late in the season for any juvenile juncos.

Is your bird similiar to the male English sparrow or the female?

The feathers on each one is quite different.

I have a little albino chickadee that has returned to the feeders for the 3rd season. He is not all white, but the coloration is irregular from normal; lt. grey head, white body, little grey on wings.

Any chance you could post a picture?......p

It looks like the female english house sparrow. The primaries are entirely pure white, but most of the other feathers are the usual grey/brown/yellow/cream colors.
Unfortunately, I can't get a pic. I don't have good enough equipment or... ahem... skill.
