This is a pic of what I believe to be a male Siskin, a type of Greenfinch
Taken with my new camera
Still loads of room for improvement :)

Considering that (to me at least) birds are THE single most difficult subject to photograph - that's pretty cool!

 Snow... actually I was hoping you would! So these are related to our finches? our siskins? Instead of me going off and researching, could you just please spoon feed me the info?

I have some pictures that look similar but I'm not sure if they are gold finches or pine siskins...

What you have there Peg are some American Goldfinches in their winter garb 8-) Pine Siskins are indeed finches - closely related to goldfinches and redpolls. In fact, it is said that if you have a lot of pine siskins, the redpolls will move along elsewhere, as they compete for the same food and the siskins are the more aggressive. I have seen both together briefly - on the rare occasions that redpolls come down from the north woods in winter.

Snow ... you are absolutely correct when you say that the Siskins are more aggressive
I have one pic which shows a Siskin being really vicious with an approaching BlueTit which tried to join the feeding tray. Unfortunately it is totally out of focus, otherwise it would have been a tremendous picture :(

Yup - and they arent all that "pretty" as birds go, so we tend to wish they'd let the more colorful birds have a chance at the feeder

This is pic which didnt come out well. You can see the fury at the little BlueTit. It may be a GreenFinch instead of a Siskin ... hard to tell here :)

You folks over there have the cutest tits 8-) Seriously - I would love to have that variety of titmice at my feeders.

Those are our pine siskins, Sam. About the size of a goldfinch, and very nondescript. And very piggish
