Such a handsome fella there! His coloring is different from ours, but that shape and posture sure gives him away! Thanks for sharing!.....p

If memory serves, the English Robin is not closely related to our own American Robin! Ours is a thrush, the original Robin is not. Ok it actually is, however the English Blackbird is closely related to our American Robin - not being a blackbird at all by our terms, but a thrush, like our Robin. Now I'll have to find pictures  I adore the English Robin - it's such a sweet bird. Cant remember what family it is - another search to do

Ok here is the English Blackbird

And our American Robin:

Very closely-related, and both thrushes. Only real difference is the coloration. Baby English Blackbirds look just like our baby Robins, except that where ours have white, theirs have black.

Not off to find English Robin info!

Ok - the English Robin is referred to as a true robin, whereas our American Robin is NOT a robin at all, but a thrush. The English Blackbird is also a thrush. Now - to make it more confusing, the English Robin is also a thrush :o Just not closely related to ours. I think it would be more apt to think of the English Robin as being similar to our American Bluebird (which, of course, is also a thrush), rather than like our Robin (which isnt a robin at all)

From my understanding, the early settlers here named our robin because it reminded them so much of the little guy in Sam's pic.

So our robin isn't really a robin?????? Our robin is a thrush and England's robin is really a robin. But our thrush is still a thrush, as are the thrushes in England?
Do I have that right, or am I still confused?
