Beautiful bird, and photo  I think we are supposed to have cuckoos here - but only once do I believe I've seen one in the yard and it was the black-billed. I'm certain I hear them though - and they are very good at hiding.

What does the title of your post mean?
"One for sorrow, two for joy" I have not heard that before.

The magpie is famous in song

One for sorrow, two for joy
Three for a girl, and four for a boy
Five for silver, six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told
Eight's a wish and nine's a kiss
Ten is a bird you must not miss :)

It was the signature tune of a TV programme for children on ITV here in GB

It is all about how many magpies you see at one time. Some people who saw a single magpie would drive frantically for miles to spy another one :)

:D Thanks Sam. I like that!

When I first read your post title my mind went straight to the Morning Dove, because they always sound so sad to me when they are all alone, and seem happy when they are with their mate.

Thanks for educating me! That is a cute song/poem.
