Northern Mockingbird

Post by PeggyC »

I have never encountered a mockingbird until today and he definitely got my attention by his loud and different songs... I think he borrowed every bird's call that's in his vicinity! :o  And you know I love all birds (even the blue jay scoundrels) but I'll tell you after 2 hours straight of his singing, I was glad he wasn't living at my house!

I looked him up in my bird book tonight. He kept giving a display like this so I can only think he was doing a mating dance but I never saw the female.

They can sing all night long once they get territory established.

Fantastically clear action shots! WHat a cool bird to photograph too huh? Guess I should be glad we only have the robins and mourning doves waking us and not the all nighters! :D
