(European) Goldfinch

Post by whis4ey »

We have started to get a few more of these about the garden this past few years
Not a great photograph, but it lets you see the difference between it and the American Goldfinch

PLEASE post more of these from the wild!!! I have 2 as pets (they are sold in pet stores in the US - hopefully mine aren't wild caught, they do breed in captivity). They are my favorite birds, I'd keep a dozen if I could. They are so cool.

Very

I never knew they existed, so that's an added bonus! Do you get pics of other local birds? I for one would love to see your pics if you do! Thanks for sharing this one! :D

Oh, WOW! I never expected that. It certainly doesn't look anything like our goldfinches. It's a beautiful bird!

I'd love to see more of your photos of European wild birds! :)

What do your goldfinches like to eat at your feeders?

Both birds are similar in size to canaries Spider
The container has pea nuts in it
I understand that Goldfinches like thistle seeds, but there are few of them about here. So this chap must have been hungry :)

That is a great photo to see the difference between the species.

I too have enjoyed all your bird photos. Thanks so much for sharing your wildlife with us.

Mine like to carry the pine pellets I use for bedding up to the perch, hold it under his foot and pick it apart. He does the same to mealworms! He also really likes dandilion leaves too. I think I'll try some plain peanuts to see if he figures that out too. :)
