Female Cardinal with white on back and tummy?

Post by pretends_to_garden »

I saw a female cardinal the other day that had white on her back and stomach.....never seen her before the other day. I am going to have to get a pic of her....has anyone ever seen or heard of this before?
And no, it wasn't snow on her back, beacause when I first saw her, we did not have any snow (unlike now!!!!!)
Gonna have to get a pic of her tomorrow!

Occasionally a bird can produce an off-color morph. The reason we do not see more of them is that, unlike mammals, birds are not color-blind and they do not recognize the mutant as one of their own so he/she will not have an opportunity to breed.

I saw an all-white evening grosbeak once and managed to get a poor-quality pic, but cannot put my hands on it right now.
Many a great tune has been played on an older fiddle.
