Yep, I just saw the cardinal, too! 
This sparrow is cute. In the first picture it looks like he's hanging on with just one foot to keep from stepping on those THORNS I see!!

I saw a nature show once that said if you look at the black markings on the males, the bigger the black mark the more dominant he is. Yours has a pretty big black mark.
