Oh you lucky person to get a pic of a hawk! I try, but as soon as I get close enough the little sapsuckers fly off

Great pics!

I'm not so good at ID'ing hawks, but my guess would be Coopers' Hawk. But a great shot Ed! Mine always shows up on dark overcast days. SO bad light and bad angels = BAD PICS!

It might be a Red-shouldered Hawk - juvenile
did a google search and that was the closest I could get for a positive ID

I have a better pictures from a few summers ago, I think it is the same type of hawk

Those are the best hawk pictures!!!

All kidding aside BEAUTIFUL!!

Thanks Claudia

We feed birds, and that's the lure, it's not what we planned, but it happened.
I have seen hawks take a bird off a feeder flying sideways going full tilt more than once, awe inspiring sight
I have pic' of a Coopers hawk sitting on the same deck from a different year

So beautiful...birds of prey are my favorites!! I only hope to pics that good of our Cooper's. The red-shouldered's are more cooperative around here. I know it does really distrub some people. We have seen the Cooper's & Sharp-shinned both take birds. But we have seen more miss than catches. It is a very cool thing to see nature in action!

Thanks for posting!!

Great shots Ed! I've never gotten close ups of the coopers or others here. Was not happy to see him devour a mourning dove one feb morning outside our bedroom window. I know they too have to survive, but geepers, it reminds me of the hunter who baits his back yard so he doesn't have to leave his home to shoot his buck, you know?

And worse is when the leave a head or body at the base of the bird bath! Did you know they will wash their victim while eating it? YUCK! While beautiful birds, I really hate that I have caused them to find my yard a perfect feeding ground :(
