Eagles about to hatch

Post by Spider »

If they haven't already:

Sandhill cranes at the Platte River migration site in Nebraska - over 100,000 birds in one place! Not a great camera, but well worth it! Look at about 7:30 pm Eastern time on.

I can't see the babies yet.. just Momma fluffing up her nest. Fun to watch, I'll be keeping my eye on that web cam. Thanks a bunch for the link!

Boy, their not even a few days old and #1 baby is beating the crap out of the other! I think there's even a wound on #2s neck. I knew they did this, but didn't realize so early. Egg #3 doesn't look hatched, hope for the chick's sake it doesn't!

Thanks so much for the web cam site. I am soooooo hooked. I check on them as often as I can when I am home. Not getting much done around here  but am very much enjoying the show. I will probably have to attend a couple Eagle Watcher's Anonymous meetings once the chicks fledge and there is less drama. I don't think I can quit cold turkey.

I've been watching them re-inforce the nest most of the morning. This link is just downright facinating. The "refugees" are much enjoying it too!

Has anyone else been keeping up with the eaglets? I have been watching every day. This morning, the last one fledged. Her name is Azalea and she is wearing a GPS transmitter like a little backpack. It will transmit for 3 years and help the biologists learn more about where juvenile eagles go while they are maturing. Watching these birds has been a real rewarding experience. Learned a lot and enjoyed watching the banding and chatting with other folks who became hooked. You can still check out both videos and slideshows and all three babies will be in the area for a little longer while they learn to hunt for themselves.
