Another Hawk...Coopers/Sharp-shinned?

I think?

This one was smaller than the other one (the Red Tail), so I'm thinking Coopers. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. It was still a good size as he was on my back fence.

I love big birds and I can not lie........ 8-)

Could be Sharp-Shinned, though.

Don't you sometimes wish you could turn your head completely around like that?

You could be right Tigger. I know those two are hard to tell apart. The Sharp-shinned is a little smaller.

Based on the picture and measuring the bird against the fence below, then going out and measuring the fence - I'd put the size at 13-15".

Sharp-shinned: 10-14"
Coopers: 14-20"

All that measuring and it doesn't get any clearer on which one. Oh well.....

What color were his feet? Did he have a orange cast to his breast? I am thinking Coopers also, but from the back it is hard to tell. Maybe Nanny56 will know.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see it fly off at all. I took about 4 quick pics and then went to call my neighbor. I owed him one since he came to get me when the Red-Tail was out. I looked up before I could place the call and he had already flown off. Couldn't see the feet either. oh well....

sorry about the song, just couldn't help it....for what it's worth I can't get the tune out of my head either. Maybe by tomorrow.

Chris - smaller birds.....

Just kidding, sort of.

I do have several other feeders and get quite a large number of smaller birds around. We also have a large number of squirrels around here. We're not too far from the Olentangy River and the open fields and wooded areas associated with the river.

I say Sharp-shinned Hawk because of eye color. Photos thru Google show green eyes on Cooper's.
