Carolina Anole

Post by oldcoot »

This is what can happen when you always take your Camera with you. OC had gone out to see if there were any more blooms on his Lilium and he spotted this will critter in the shade of a branch from a Rose Bush. Since he had his Camera in his Pocket, he could get it out and take this picture. He was surprised at how close he let OC get to take the photo.

Some folks know this little critter as a Chameleon since it changes color to the shade of whatever he or she is on. I don't know if you can see it's tail in this photo, but it has alread started to turn brown, like the deck rail it is on.

Cool picture!
It's fun to watch the males doing their territorial display when they bob their heads and flair out the red throat patch.

OC actually saw the male throwing out his throat yesterday morning, but before he could take a photo he had a visit from the great dane he lives with and it chased him off the porch. Maybe better luck next time.
