Benefits of insects in the garden...

Post by Helen_wetherells »

Most of the humans are afraid of insects since they are harmful. But when it comes to gardening some of the insects have many beneficial values which preserve a garden. These insects perform valued services like pollination and pest control.

Some insects and pests damage the garden but there are some other insects which help in the growth of plants. Not all insects are venomous and some of them are helpful for the biological control of our earth's ecosystem. Here are some of the benefits of having such bugs in the garden.
1) Praying Mantids: It consumes larvae in few minutes thus improving the aeration of soil and is an active predator.
2) Ground beetles: It helps in the faster growth of veggies and they feed harmful insects too.
3) Syrphid flies: They help in better pollination of plants which is the basic requirement of growth.
4) Green lacewing: It is a famous bug as it suppresses for faster insect population.
5) Predatory bugs: As it name suggests, the larvae can help to kill many insects like beetles, caterpillar, grubs etc.

Research has proved that bugs have developed resistance to the pesticides. So while having a garden this should also be kept in mind. For more, you could refer this article http://inthebackyard.ca/insects-benefit-garden/. I hope you all find it useful. Thanks for the time.
