Farmers Market

Post by wild4flowers »

Now for something new in my life. I have been an RN for years, and now that I am retired I am going to sell daylilies at the local Farmers Market.
I have ordered them, they are here, and I am repotting them for sale.
Kind of scary.....a new task at my age.
What I will be selling are:
All Fired Up,
Carolina Ruffles
Daring Dilemma
Elegant Candy
Ferengi Gold
Horizon Beyond
Janice Brown
Jolyene Nichole
Moon Witch
Orchid Candy
Pastel Classic
Pink Cotton Candy
'Pirates Patch
Plum Candy
'Rainbow Candy
Strawberry Candy
Sweet Sugar Candy
Wineberry Candy
Yazoo Johnny Hughes
Yellow Hair

I have made out visual aids with the picture and description of each one, enclosed in plastic. Since they will probably not bloom this year, it is important that people see what they are buying.

Wish me luck. CHAR

GOOD LUCK! I sure hope it works for you-are you selling all at the same prices?

Im going to try my hand at selling some flowers this year from my house.
I hope to have a lil of everything to offer. Last year I let the boys sell some Iris boquets-they were so happy when people would stop! :D

Char,
Make sure to dress the "gardener" part with a nice straw hat and a pair of gloves in your back pocket and don't sit down ... say hello to EVERYONE who passes by and SMILE!!!
I've been working for approximately 10 years with our city Market Master from May to October ... the ones who smile and make eye contact and stay on their feet seem to do the best ...
Good luck ... it can be a lot of work but I know you love daylilies ... so that makes the work lighter.

Char,

I want to get my 'GOOD LUCK' in here too!

I hope in the long run, the fun, good feelings, and money are in bigger supply than the head and body aches.

Don't get discouraged when you meet people like my Dad. I still haven't convinced him that daylilies aren't a weed. I had him come over and view some of my prettiest Daylily flowers and it doesn't make a difference. (He has always gardened, but vegetables. He is the reason all 7 of us children garden.)

At a local swap last year, I couldn't get anyone to trade for my Daylilies until I showed them a picture of the flowers.
They really liked the ones with 2 colors, they hadn't seen that before.

My dad also did vegetable gardening for the family. But the one flower he did grow was gladiolas, because mom sold the flowers in bunches.

Potting up all these daylilies has been time consuming, but not hard work. My DH wanted to know, why so many? I tried to explain about inventory, and variety. But I don't think it sunk in. CHAR

I have to say my "good luck!" too. I have a friend who goes to a farmers market all summer long and sells daylilies among other things. She doesn't make tons of money doing it, but she has fun. You could also try the lily auction. Good luck again!

With all this changing weather, I'm spending a lot of time worrying about how they will look when I go to market. I don't want to even display them if they look bad. I do have some grasses and sedums that look pretty good tho. CHAR

Good Luck Char and NotMartha . . . hope the summer markets works out well for you!

Having the bags and garden art will add a little variety and perhaps draw in some folks that otherwise wouldn't stop.

Have fun!
