I LIKE YELLOW!!!

Post by JaneG »

We've all got our daylily fetishes, for Helen it's Dragons, for me it's Yellow! I love true yellow daylilies, yellow is such a cheerful color! Here is an assortment of my yellow daylilies.

EDIT: Oh dear! After posting all these I realized that I forgot to take a pic of Double Cutie, my double yellow daylily!!! Rats!

(And thanks to Deb for my pretty Yellow avatar!)

This yellow contrasts nicely with the Japanese Maple it's under.

This is such a soft, soft, color. Yellow with a hint of blush, it's becoming a favorite that I really look forward to!

Unknown, but I've had it a long time and really like it. It holds the flowers high above the foliage.

And the last one is Spiffy. Spiffy was a gift from Patrushka (THANKS!) last year and I split the division from her into three plants and they all look as if they've been growing for a couple years!!! Spiffy has more buds than any other daylily in my gardens!!

Ooohhh pretty!

I wonder who Oglesby was. :-? It was the name of the street two blocks west of us in Chicago.

Now, I know. Governor Richard Oglesby, for whom the City of Oglesby was named, was a Union general in the American Civil War and an Illinois political leader.

Oglesby, Illinois is actually a town here in Illinois. At Hornbakers, where I got this one, they have a lot of daylilies named for towns in Illinois and Missouri. I don't know the story behind them. Does anyone?

Jane, I think I sent Spiffy in the perennial trade two years ago. :D It really is a fast grower. Yours look beautiful! Mine doesn't seem to open as fully as yours or LucyGoose's.

My how time flies Pat, but now thinking about it, I'm sure you are right. I'm just still so tickled about it, that it "feels" new!! How's that for an excuse for my lame memory!

Jane, if you like yellows, you have to get the old classic 'Hyperion'. Smells great also!

 OED

Your posted make me think I picked that one up last year, because it's a classic yellow. So I went out and looked where I thought I planted it, and sure enough, loaded with small buds, but now flowers yet.

So I'm waiting for Hyperion and Wild Turkey, then I think all my yellows will be blooming!!

Thanks for reminding me, OED!!!

Well, make sure you post a pic of it when it does bloom. Don't think I've seen that one yet! I'll have to do a search on the Hyperion.

Thanks. :D

Love them all. I like yellow also. My theme is yellow and purple. Always on the lookout for another yellow.

Thanks for the show.
