Peach day today :D

Post by wishiwere »

Lullabye Baby and Mini Pearl.

Poor Mini is in a hosta garden in mostly shade, but sends up good blooms. This year I need to move her though as she' not showing her true beauty :(

Lullabye is always a welcome addition.

Very pretty, Jane!

   Michael, You got me! I peeked at this thread this morning and scrolled back to look at the pic. It went right over my head.

The true name of the first daylily is not Minnie Pearl but Mini Pearl. Thanks for sharing it OED. :D It was introduced in 1983 by W. Jablonski. I need to move mine too. It's surrounded by Monarda and Phlox.

You know Pat? I swear that's what the tag said, but when I did a search today, b/c I'm never sure I spell it correctly and always check my notes (but today was too lazy :D) I noticed it's spelled both ways there too. Depending on the site. So the correct spelling is Mini Pearl, not Minnie Pearl, correct? I'll change it if you say so, b/c I've had a few years, and don't believe I've got the tag yet. Thanks for letting me know :D

Jane, I researched it when I received it from OED. I also found results with both names. I guess it is sold under both names. If you google, Mini gets twice as many results as Minnie. I seem to remember reading an article somewhere that said it was not named for Minnie Pearl. I can't find it now. According to Tinker's Gardens Daylily Database, it is Mini Pearl. At Tinker's, if you don't spell the name correctly you don't get results. I guess I should have said, "According to Tinker's Database the true name is Mini Pearl."

I just found this:

http://www.ahsregion2.org/newssp2003.pdf

Scroll down to page 11 and on the right side it says, "The Hite Award was given posthumously to Walter Jablonski, who hybridized STELLA D'ORO, MINI PEARL and many others."

Further down in the same newsletter is an interview with Walter Jablonski on May 18, 1982. It talks about a mini daylily that he planned to introduce as Minnie Pearl. :-? Could that be a misspelling?

There must be some place where you can check daylily registrations or introductions. :hmm:

Jane, I just googled for "Daylily Registrations" and found this. :D

http://www.cyberlily.com/DaylilySearch/

It gives Mini Pearl as the registered name of Jablonski's daylily. Check it out when you have time.
