Lemon Lily?

Post by Ed_B »

I have had a bunch of opinions on this one.

I like it whatever it is, and the first bloom opened today

Ed, does the flower have a strong lemony fragrance? This is the second earliest one to open for me, (Hemerocallis flava) after H. dumortieri.

The foliage seems a bit more arching though in yours, rather than upright...

Hi John, it is fragrant, strong lemon, maybe not strong.

It is very fragrant for a daylily though.
wish I could be of more help.

I will check out (Hemerocallis flava) after H. dumortieri)
tomorrow

Okay, Ed. "They" changed the lovely name flava to the impossible lilioasphodelus-- I'm not changing. We can still call it the lemon lily!

I think I have the same daylily. I can never smell the fragrance in a daylily. But I asked the neighbor boy if it smelled good and he said "sorta". I need to get my DH out to sniff it, he can smell all flowers.

If it is the same as mine, it will tend to spread more than clump.

I got mine from my great aunt, and after she was in the nursing home with mild dementia she asked me if I had her lemon lily, so I have always assumed that is what it is.

My first bloom was on Saturday. I think it is my favorite because it is the first of the season.

HI Tracy

The one I have does not spread at all, in fact it is a very well
behaved clump.
I got this from the edge of a burning pit of an older neighbor couple who decided to redo their landscape.

I can smell it's fragrance, but with the fragrance from the daphne's in full bloom hanging in the air, it doesn't smell that much to me.

Mine is a distinct clump as well. Ed, it seems to me even the most fragrant daylilies require a very close sniff, they do not appear to cast their scent into the air.

Hi John

I remember going by the daylily beds when they are in full bloom there is a fragrance in the air, slight but noticeable.

I am not hardcore enough to figure which were fragrant and those that were not.
I enjoy the flower for what it is.
