Identify, please?!

Post by John »

Here is a spidery, red-orange daylily, with darker markings. The increase in the number of fans in a clump is incredible. I'd love to know the proper name of this one, which was received in a trade as an unknown bonus. Flowers are small, perhaps 3 inches or so. Thanks for any help!

Hi John!

It looks to be 'Sammy Russell' hybridized by Russell in 1951, dor, dip.

Here is a pic of mine....it was ID'd for me by Dr. Darrell Apps as it was gifted to me earlier this spring. I love the simplicity and coloring of its bloom!

Hi Dee,

That sure looks like it to me. I had suspected it was an older daylily, from the color and form which I also find very appealing.

Nice to be able to know what this one is called, thank you very much!

Thanks for the question and ID :D I also have this plant, received from a batch sent from a Northwest Perennial grower in what should have been something totally different  so it is nice to be able to put a name to it. Definitely a fast grower, really tall scapes on mine too!

I was going to suggest Crimson Pirate because that is what mine is supposed to be. Do you think mine could also be Sammy Russell?
