Vote for the pollen parent for this cross!

Post by caliloo »

This one just looks nice today. This is the first season this one is blooming, so I am only going to pollinate 1 bloom, I think this is it! I am going to keep track of this one as the hallsons forum babies, so please vote for your favorite pollen parent!

Which pollen would you put on it from the following choices......

BIG EDGE FRED

BETTY WARREN WOODS
Image
ED BROWN
Image
COURT MAGICIAN

DARLA ANITA (no photo, the pollen is frozen from last year)

Or one ne of the many seedlings I have posted?

I will probably want to go out to put some daddy dust on it mid afternoon, so please vote early (and often!)

I'm voting for Big Edge Fred, like the edge and eyezone on that one.

Of course you can change!

But it is looking a LOT like CM is going to be the winner

Reasons: I would hesitate to use any of the yellow-ish flowers, for fear of the seedlings looking muddy, or at best, unwanted peach/melon colors.

I'm also tired of those mauvey-pinks, with gold edges that seem to pop up so easily.

And I'd not be looking for an eye and edge either, in this case.

I think crossing your daylily with COURT MAGICIAN will give you seedlings with wonderful saturated color, perhaps more of that chalky-lavender eyezone, and improved form; maybe even nice bi-tones.

The deed is done! Now we just have to hope that Ma Nature cooperates with this experiment! There are thunderstorms and high winds predicted for later - I hope I got the timing right.

Hopefully in a couple o years we will have forum blooms to celebrate! :bd:

I've been told that as long as there is an hour after pollination, it does not matter if it gets rained on after that.

Some would put a tiny aluminum-foil cap on the end of the pistil, I'd be afraid of that doing more harm than good.

Not to jump the gun but my thought is if there is anything of merit, we will have a vote (or auction off) the naming rights and I would give it to Chris as a forum donation and let him sell it and put the proceeds to off set the costs of maintaining this forum OR if it is really worthwhile, register it and give Hallson's the exclusive on selling it in any manner Chris and Brian see fit.

I know this may be a pipe dream... but that is sort of what I had in mind when I started this whole plan this morning.

Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that we actually GET a seedling that is worthy!
