A few more seedlings in bloom

Post by John »

PURPLE PINWHEEL X PINK STRIPES--- okay, this one is a nice purple, not so red-grape, as most are. But, no sign of the expected streaks and stripes from the PS parent. I know, I could sibling cross these and bring out the recessives, but streaks are a fun cross for me, not a main goal.

RED VOLUNTEER X DARLA ANITA--- again, where are the chick fat edges from DA? Might be a good garden plant though, if it has the continual blooming trait of RV.

LONGSTOCKING seedlings seem to have a strong resemblance, this one was much prettier today, the flower was HUGE.

Hi John
I'm interested in your results with Darla Anita as a pollen parent
I have some seedlings of my own with D A parentage that I hope bloom this year, it should be interesting

Ed, that is the second seedling I've had bloom of that cross, the first was last year, when it was only a year old. Again, there was no chicken fat. I found the photo, attached here.

John I don't think that cross worked, seems that Red Volunteer dominated the results.
I do thank you for sharing the results, I think that if I try Darla Anita with a red, I need one with an edge already
I also was hoping that D A could carry that edge over to it's seedlings, guess it needs help

JaneG, the first one is even more purple than the photo shows, although it is close.

Ed, I was hoping for Darla Anita's edge on a daylily with strong color, like RED. Here again is where one should make those sibling crosses to bring out recessives, or even backcross to Darla Anita for another dose of those genes. But, this is another 'fun' cross, I am not focused on chicken-fat.

I think the first one is the nicest looking here. The second one has possibilites!
