Daylily Farm

Post by eastwood2007 »

I visited a daylily farm today!

They have over 2500 varieties and that made it very difficult to choose the 6 I did buy. They have some lovely things, but I must say that many of the seedlings you all post are much prettier than anything I saw there.

Question for you daylily pros....do daylilies get foliar nematodes like attack hostas? Can you tell by looking at the plant? Can they be treated? Will they show up in the water test you use for hostas?

Thanks, Ed!

I guess I won't worry about nematodes, but I just learned about RUST. Bummer!!!! I've got my new daylilies quarantined half way up the driveway. Not sure how long I should leave them there.

Otherwise, I only have some very nice seedlings that haven't yet bloomed, but I don't want to risk bringing rust into the garden.

I'm trying to figure out a tactful way of asking the grower if he's had any rust. I may be safe as his wife was the daylily collector and she passed away in 2004. Perhaps nothing has been brought into their gardens since rust became a problem.
