String-of-beads in flower

Post by Gruntfuttock »

This is a string-of-beads plant (Senecio rowleyanus) and it has flowered for the first time for me.

The scent is incredibly strong for such a small flower.

Here is a close up of the flower...I hadn't realised it is a cluster until I zoomed in with the camera. The poor ageing eyes you know.

You're probably treating it too well.

I'm surprised yours is blooming now. Mine usually blooms in late Jan or Feb.

My mom had one that was HUGE! It was in a 12 inch dia shallow pot that she had in a bay window. It covered the entire window seat and when it bloomed the smell was intoxicating. Her whole house just REEKED!

Keep treating that one just the way you have been - it looks great!

This is how it looks now. I'm not quite sure where the seeds are, but it looks like it relies on wind distribution.

That is definately a strange looking plant. I've never heard of it before.

I started this in July and it's still producing new flowers in December. This plant just gets better and better.
