Yucca the deer ate

Post by birdbert »

The deer were so hungry this winter they even ate my yucca that they aren't supposed to even like. They ate most of the leaves and they look terrible. From what I read here, it would be hard to kill these plants. I have had these for at least 5 years and last year was the first year it flowered.

Any suggestions what I can do to help these two plants recover? I already sprayed them today with the deer skyd stuff to prevent further chewing. Pheew!

Hi,

Just trim the Yucca back and they will be fine.

When we transplant them we cut them down to about 6" tall and they grow all new foliage.

The deer actually love Yucca in the winter, but I've never seen them eat it in the summer.

Welcome to the forums!

(dropped in here to see if anyone writes about rock garden / alpine plants, on my brain since I'm in the Alps this week)

Anyway: animals and yucca. Yeah, we've had deer nibble them. What I think is funnier is that we've seen fox (mangy?) using them as back-scratchers. Yow!
