instant bonsai

Post by irkwater »

these four bonsai starters were bought in local garden centres last year in 2005 but not as bonsai or yamadori
a few snips a bit of work with a saw and some wire gets you off to a good start plus while rooting around garden centres a nursuries there is the added exitement of maybe finding something that looks 200 years old
Left to right cotoneaster then two Chinese junipers and a Cryptomeria

Hi Darren,
Looking good, thats where I get my bonsai and my Japanese style pines and conifers from garden centers they are all JUST ordinary garden center plants it's what you do with them when you get them.

Those are awesome! I wish I had the "eye" to do that. Might just give it a try one of these days....Next time one of you decides to start some, perhaps you could post some pics of before, during and after, for the rest of us who inspire to create such little masterpieces!! It would give us an idea of where to begin.....thanks for posting your pics!

Hi Pburgh,
You can train ficus as a bonsai but you must be carefull prunning the branches as they leach a milky sap.

George, I've noticed that milky sap when I prune branches. I don't want to hijack this thread so I'll start a new one. Thanks
