I've just come across some albums at Pbase belonging to a young lady called Emma Perry.
She lived in Japan for about 2 years and one of her albums has a lot of pictures of things in Japan that she noticed. Many of them are not of actual gardens, but they do show a way of arranging trees, shrubs, rocks and so on that seems to me to be characteristically Japanese.
I think you may enjoy looking at them all. The URL of her albums is - http://www.pbase.com/kalia/root
