Moss

Post by Herb »

A piece of dirty old carpet, laid face down about 4 years ago to smother weeds.....

Maybe this is the way to grow moss?[/img]

How cool!

I have a piece of carpeting about 4 x 8 that I was going to toss out. I think I'll keep it and give your method a try. Maybe to encourage a good start I will do the moss and buttermilk and water in the blender trick then pour that on the carpet.

Think that will speed up the process?

Alexa,

If it's the right kind of carpet, I incline to think you needn't do anything to it.

The piece of carpet that the moss is growing on doesn't have any sort of waterproof backing, so any dust and damp can soak into the carpet's material. I think that's what has allowed the moss to thrive.

The carpet in the bottom left-hand corner of the picture is different. As you can see, it has some kind of white rubber or plastic backing. That, I think, doesn't collect dust & it keeps the carpet material underneath it dry. As you see, no moss at all has grown on it.
