Hi Alexa,
I wonder if your Lowe’s got their trees from the same nursery. My tree came from Oregon State. HHHHHHMMMMMMMMM…maybe we are related now. LOL!!!

I DID look before I posted that Alexa
I am just saying that it is more like Crimson Queen than Garnet, NOT that it is Crimson Queen
Keep a watch on its change of colour though, and you may be able to settle your mind on a name more easily

Hey Sam,
How much sun does your ‘Garnet’ get? Is it full sun? The reason why I ask is because I planted mine in full sun. Do you think it can handle it?
Thanks,
J

Mine gets full sun most of the day
However, be aware that 'full sun' in Northern Ireland may be TOTALLY different from 'full sun' where you are :)

Hi,
I think the red acers tolerate the sun better than the green acers but all prefere dappled shade. here's a photo of my Tamukeyama and in the background my Suminagashi this photo is from last year.
George.

Sam-
I looked up the longitude and latitude of Northern Ireland and compared it to Massachusetts USA and I think you are a little more north than I am (I’m not too sure). I didn’t worry about all the sun before because I was overtaken buy the cheep price of the tree and I needed something deciduous for that spot. But now that I’m getting really attached to this ‘Garnet’ I don’t hope I want to kill it.

George-
Beautiful specimens! I like the pot method.

Irrespective of our latitude we are an island and have the benefit of the warm gulf stream
So latitude itself would be no indication of similarity I'm afraid :)

Owe...that makes sense now. Because I was wondering why Ireland has a more of a mild climate than Boston.

As far as climatic differences, I would also think that Ireland, etc would be closer in climate to the Pacific NW. Ocean immediately to the west makes me think maybe that is why it is more temperate than the equivalent lat on the east coast. Of course, that is just a guess on my part.....
