Flowers and samaras on Japanese maples

Post by whis4ey »

Flowers on Japanese maples are usually rather insignificant and also very easy to miss
Samaras (the helicopters, whirligigs or whatever you like to call them) are in great abundance this year, and this seems to be so all over the world
Here are two pics of flowers and samaras on one of my trees, 'Suminagashi'
Have a look at yours and see if there is any life :)

Sadly, due to our late April hard freeze, I will have to wait until 08 to see this beauty in person !

Beautiful pics! Ours bore several seeds last year...I found a few tiny seedlings late this spring!

I asked the fella I work with about their survival...he said they would probably not be sturdy enough to make it. So far, 2 are about 8" high. .............p
