Very pretty!

Can I aske a question from you in this post? I have a friend with a japenese maple (the fine leafs all died back this year) I think from it being planted to deep or too shallow (unsure of it's needs myself). It's been in the ground since last fall sometime.

There is now new growth from underneath coming up, and yet the top has appeared to die back completely. I'm 'assuming' this is a graft growing? Will it grow 1) large, and 2) be worth it to keep and grow the root? The gentleman paid $160 for this tree and it's he nearly 80. Sweet old guy! :D

If the tree is really dead then it is probably the original root that is now appearing. How it will grow you will just have to wait and see
If the tree has just prematurely lost its leaves then it may come back again next year
If that happens the growth from the root should be removed

Hi Sam,
Another one of your lovely acers.
Hi wishiwere,
Give it the thumb nail test run your thumbnail down the bark of which you think is dead if it is green it is alive if it is brown then I am afraid it is dead.
George.

Sam, beautiful tree you have there. Sure goes through a lot of changes during the season!

How long have you had it? Looks to be large?
