SUKIYA LIVING

Post by Herb »

My Jan/Feb copy of The Journal of Japanese Gardening arrived today - with a new name. Now it's called Sukiya Living.

Doug Roth explains that he considers the term "Japanese Garden" is misleading, and that "Sukiya Living" better encapsulates the Japanese tradition which integrates the house, its interior and the garden in one unified living environment.

The first article in this issue, headed "Garden Planning - Create it Yourself" is written very much in that spirit & is full of very good, helpful advice. I think that the more people can take the approach it recommends, the more satisfied they will be with what they create.

Hi Bert,
Not having seen or even read the JOJG I thought that Japanese gardens alone would be enough to fill the journal without having to bring the indoors into it as well.

George.

Hi, George,

From what I recall from pictures of your garden, you already have some pretty good views of it from inside your house. I think it rates as a successful example of Sukiya Living.

Incidentally, this latest issue has quite a good article on pruning PInes.
