Tanyosho Pine
I have a big problem with my Tanyosho pine; after our record snowfalls in Washington DC this winter, about 40% of the branches (all on one side) have fractured--each about half way through. The tree is 15 years old and about 10-15 feet high. I've temporarily splinted (just with ropes) the limbs back to their original position. If I trim them back, the tree will certainly look like a half tree; and it's in a very central location in the garden by the koi pond. So my questions are: 1) can those limbs survive? 2) how much disease in trying this am I subjecting the tree potentially to 3) if I trim these off what can I possibly do to make this not look like a half-tree?
