PCIs don't do very well off the west coast. they tend to die out over a few years and rarely flower. They need cool wet winters and hot dry summers ('mediterranian climate'). I'd suggest folks off the west coast try cal-sibes instead. They are crosses of PCIs and siberiens and do much much better, yet retain alot of the colors and patterns found in PCIs.
