On the downhill side

Post by Garden_of_Mu »

A heat wave today into the mid 80's has sent the iris garden into overdrive. Old blooms are wilting, new blooms are popping fast - I think we're past peak and heading down, though obviously it will be a week or two yet with lots of blooms as a small handful have yet to even begin. Here are some highlights.

Unicorn is one of the very first 'space-age' irises on the market. The horned beard was quite a sensation.

Vanity has been a lovely clump this year, and especially nice with the yellow and white of Pinnacle.

Buffawn - wonderful warm honey tones. i never really appreciated this iris until it had a dark green backdrop, like the fir trees. Suddenly its color is enchanting.
