Varigated Iris

Post by Izzy »

Does anyone know if there is a name to a varigated Iris?
I have one that has wide Blue/Green and White stripes.
I've hunted looking for a name, and I can't find a varigated one. It produces very pink flowers.
It doesn't reproduce very fast. it's actually very slow.
It is also not as big as a typical Iris.
Any points in a direction would be grateful.

Try i. pallida variegata, sometimes called 'Zebra'.

Apparently there are others, too. I have one at home that blooms blue. However, it doesn't always bloom reliably and it isn't a fast grower either. I think that's true of all variegated iris, something about them, I guess.

I have the tag, but am at work right now so I can't post the name of mine.

There are a few others with variegated foliage out there, but they are not widespread and are of recent introduction, so unless you go looking specifically for them from the iris growers you likely won't run across them. 'Zebra' is easily found at most nurseries. I see it everywhere, even though it is a slow grower.
