Kidnapped

Post by kHT »

A few years ago I  kidnapped  a seedpod from a friend's Historical Iris Stepping Out and when I went out today look what I found. I know it was open pollinated and the only one to come up as we had to move this one to safety when we took out the trees. I about fainted as we just moved her a month ago and no buds were on her.
This pod was in the middle of a huge clump so it wasn't missed.

Now that is a better looking seedling. The falls have a nice flare and the yellow beard looks very nice with the lighter version of SO's color and pattern.

Now THAT is a keeper! As Mike said, nice color variation on its pod parent. I grow SO, and it multiplies very nicely.

Can you show us more of the stalk on this seedling? Are there any branches? Estimated bud count? Just curious....

akita, I dropped what appeared to be 4 viable seeds from the pod and it was up in the area where we removed some trees. I had to move it fast and so it got laid in an area where it's not it's permanent home. I was shocked to see 3 fans coming up. It has 5 buds besides this bloom and the stalk is really sturdy. The fans are burnt some dur to the move and I'll try to get a shot of it later for you. I had enough juice this morning for just a couple shots of something else. Forgot to charge them last night, sorry.
