We can grow pretty much any tomato cultivar available here in southern Arkansas. For indeterminate varieties or determinates planted in late spring, heat tolerant varieties such as Arkansas Traveler, Homestead, Heatwave and Solar Flare usually perform best.

This year, I'm just growing the tried-and-true with a mind to fill up the cupboard:
  • Roma (60)
  • Arkansas Traveler (10)
  • Big Boy (10)
  • Sweet Wonder 100 (10)
I's also planting 20 tomatilloes for salsa verde. If I have any luck with the Roma crop, I think I might focus on more exotic varieties next year. I have a small bit of afternoon shade for the Romas but if they don't get put out soon, I'm gonna end up with all of by blossoms on the ground when the dog days hit in mid July.

If I remember right, romas were easy to grow for me when I did them. Was making sauce for canning! Mmmmmmmm they are great thickeners! :)
