Tomatoes and chlorine

Post by ICGardner »

Help! We had an accidnet with our above ground soft-sided pool and probably 8 to 10 gallons of chlorinated and algae treated pool water drowned my tomato and pepper plants! Are they doomed????? I think I can still find tomato plants at the nursery so if I have to replace them, better now then in August!!!! Any advice or thoughts? TIA

Oh goodness! I have no idea! Mine are still trying to catch up from the frost we had where all the limbs/leaves died and then they put out new ones. Then with 90's they quit growing and just this week are catching up with the newer ones!

Maybe dig em up and drench the area and replant? OR just really drench the area to dilute it? I bet you'll need to replace them, but am wondering how long that chlorine will stay in the soil?

I forgot to mention that they are in a raised bed which probably makes it even worse. I think that I will just plan on replacing as I don't have any idea how long the chlorine will stay in the soil either. Thanks for answering my post :D

What's the verdict? Did they survive their dip in the pool?????

Start slowly . . . then taper off.
