Nothing in the Veggie Garden

I'm behind, I've got NOTHING planted in the veggie garden yet. I did get it tilled a couple weeks ago, so it's ready.

But this year my procrastination has paid off. If I had planted anything 2 weeks ago when we got that blast of summer weather, it would have been killed by the frosts this past week.

See, there's always a silver lining! :D

The weatherman says I can go ahead and get started now with no more frost til October. I guess I'll go ahead and pick up some tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and squash. Time to get planting!!!!

Give us an early spring update on your veggie garden!!

I started Tomatoes wayyyyyyy to early this year :( Oh well, such is life in Michigan!

Have watermelon, peppers and some of the brandywine tomatoes started also. I so can't wait to get these gardens planted. Man, I hate this waiting. Times a wasting! :)

But alas, I have to wait till weekend, as it takes to tango with the fence to finish, then on to planting! We have a last frost date of 5/25, so I'm still early yet for putting out tomatoes, but figure peas, onions and lettuce, carrots and such can go in this weekend! :)

Your last frost is end of MAY!!!!? Wow, what a difference . . . my areas average last killing frost is April 15 (easy to remember because it's the same as tax day). Of course that's the average, we went beyond it this year.

Are you holding plants indoors or in a greenhouse 'til you can put them the garden?

Currently they are in the house, but they are going into the greenhouse this weekend, b/c they are 1) too big and 2) we had 27 degrees night before last, but it's supposed to stay about 40 this week, and with the heater I can keep it about 50, so that should be okay I hope :(

Just tired of tripping over everything (tomatoes mainly) by the patio door and such. most are in the light tables. :) TH for that!

FINALLY got a few things in last week. It sure feels good! Tomatoes, acorn squash, zucchini, onions, banana peppers and red, yellow, and green bell peppers.

No corn or beans this year.

I'm trying a bush cucumber in a pot and a bush tomato in a pot. I'm putting them outside Grandma's back door for days that she isn't up to walking out to the garden. (The garden is on the east side and Grandma is in the house next door west of me. At 88 yrs old she does a great job of keeping up with the garden, but it's not as easy for her as it used to be.)

I still need to get cucumbers and hot peppers in the garden, then I'll spend the rest of the summer fighting the dang weeds!! :x
