I want to start asparagus in my new place. I have NO experience other than eating it. ANY input greatly appreciated! Also, a good source?

I mail ordered some and got these spindly root things that they said would take 3 years to become harvestable plantings. They never took.
So last summer I dug some from my great-aunts garden and planted it in my garden, it continued growing for the remainder of last year and came back this year. Hooray!
So in my opinion, if you know someone with an established clump, ask if you can dig some and transplant it. If you dig it up, I remember that the roots were fairly deep. I tried to get as much root and dirt as possible.
That's my experience, others may have better tips for you.

I agree with jane. Unfortunately, I don't eat the stuff, so when we bought this extra land around us, we'd just mow teh stuff down as it came up. Eventually the grass won out, but it tried for several years to keep coming up. It's hardy if you have established it. Don't know about ordering though.
