Blueberries!!

Post by kHT »

I can't remember picking Blueberries ever this late in the season. We have now picked 10-one gallon bags and we aren't done yet!

My hubby love blueberries. I on the other hand hate them LOL.

Was going to plant a couple of the bushes, but everything I have read says they are hard to grow as in getting berries on them.

I see you don't have that problem

so do you do anything special?

Thats really a prettys shrub!

Good going Karma.... I love blueberries... have a box sitting on the cabinet that we bought at the grocery store. I've thought about planting a few bushes, but I have limited sunny areas & don't think they'll grow good in the shade.

We currently have the 4 orginial plants that came with the property when we bought here. They get full sun afternoons and are not in the shade when the corn grows up. We cut them back every 5 years and as you can see they love the clay acidy/barked soil in this area. We do nothing to them as in feeding or watering as they are located to the east of the septic tank. I did this year hit them with 'Messenger' when they were showing signs of budding.

Wow that looks fantastic. I put a Northland in a good sunny spot this year, so I hope it does well. It seems happy enough! I'm looking forward to some good crops in a few years.

I just picked another quart bag just yesterday and will probably pick another in 5 more days. That will make a grand total of 13 gallons and we allowed the birds to pick too! This is our year to cut them back as they are well over 5 1/2 feet tall.

Wow, that is some awesome blueberry production! I've also heard they are picky about where they like to grow, so looks like you have the perfect spot/soil for them :)

Thank Chris, I hate to say this but the only thing I do for them is cut them back and keep them mulched. We have 4 bushes and they are to the east of the garden bed and we were talking last night about moving them to the new north fence. Do you grow them there?

Congratulations on the blueberries. I've been meaning to plant some myself, I think you just motivated me to give it a shot!

Remember that they require an acid soil!
