Update on Shelby & Premium Dog Food Q

Post by Cottage Rose »

Shelby our Decker Terrier is now 6 months old and doing very well.
Sheloves her tennis ball and frisbee time.

Her dry coat is gone and she seems to be thriving on EVO dog food
albeit one concern...her poop is the rankest dog poop I've ever smelled
and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the dog food shes on.
I know I could try another brand but I was wondering if this was one of the side effects of
very high protein/low carb dog food.

C'mon, Mom, her poop don't stink, do it? (I don't have an answer for that question)

Willie is on the EVO read meat, too. What people do say about EVO is some dogs have loose bowls from it.....never really hear that it stinks, as poop is poop and it does stink.....I do not notice a real big strong oder with Willies.....Maybe you should switch again.....I am doing just that with Willie.....I had him on Solid Gold before the EVO, but do not remember how the poop was....the poop on the EVO is sometimes soft....not runny or anything, just soft....so I am switching slowing again back to the Solid Gold to see if it is better.....Maybe yours would do better to switch, too.....On the dog forum, people do say that some can't do EVO....I hear Wellness is good, to but I haven't tried it...or know anyone using it....PetCo here just started selling it.....

Hello gals...thank you for your comments. :)
Well it goes without saying that poop stinks but this seems more than your typical stink.
Its smells pretty bad. Since I have no prior experience with premium dog food I just thought
I'd see what others had to say about it.
Lucy a posted a q. on dogforums.com too

Well, when I went out today to get Solid Gold, I instead came home with Wellness Core... ...was talking to the gal at the Pet Supplies Plus, and I just decided to try it, since it is one I haven't before.....it's a good food, I hear........I will probably still go to SG again, as I have decided that I will change here and there anyway and not just one food for Willie's whole life.....So I will see how this one is.......I already gave him his food with it in it and he loves it....but Willie will eat anything....

I did see your post at the dog forum......not many replied to you though.....I am more of a lurker there.....Good Luck!

Just an update on Shelby.
She's been on Innova Puppy formula for one week and I do believe her poo isn't as stinky.
I know its not good to try 2 new things at once but I've also been giving her a about 4 Tbs. of plain Stoneyfield yogurt a few times over the last week.
Something else I've noticed...she isn't as hyper. Maybe the EVO was just too rich for her system afterall. Has anybody ever noticed a premium dog food making your dog hyper?

I am not sure about the trying 2 things at once.....do you mean, the EVO, and then now being on the puppy food? If that's the case, that should be fine.....Willie is just now eating the Wellness Core alone, so I can't comment on it totally yet.....He is always going, so not sure any switch would make him not as active......I don't think it will matter for him......I think I have said that I will be switching his food from time to time as a norm....changing the protein source.

Good Luck!

HI Lucy...
I meant I switched her to Innova puppy plus added yogurt.
Is it recommended to switch brands from time to time?
Maybe Shelby is just growing up and why she seems to be less hyper.
Guess we're not use to high energy breeds.
Our Chihuahua's are couch potatoes
and our previous big breed dogs weren't hyper.

So they say, and to me it makes sense.....I plan on doing it with this dog.....With our Brittney, she was on one kind, Iams for 14 years and had 3 different cancers. Who knows....

Giving her yogurt should be fine even with her new food. :D When our doxie was taking antibiotics, our vet recommended a spoonful of yogurt along with her antibiotics to keep her stomach from getting upset.
